Margin to fuel melting

Coordinated by Dragos Staicu, JRC (EU)

This work package is focused on the determination of fundamental material properties needed for the evaluation of the MOX fuel margin to melting for various burn‐ups and in presence of Am. Existing phase transition data need to be assessed comprehensively with the help of structural material characterization and computational thermodynamic optimisation (task 1.1). In addition, further data are still necessary on the thermal conductivity behaviour of these fuels, particularly as a function of increasing burn‐up (task 1.2). Atomic scale calculations will complete the data assessment and provide an estimate of material properties complex to measure directly, in particular specific heat evolution in the investigated materials (task 1.3). The results obtained will be transferred to task 6.3
